Vietnamese/Teo-chew | Southeast Asian American
Daniel Luu graduated from UCLA undergraduate in 2019 majoring in Asian American Studies (Ethnic Studies) and minoring in Urban and Regional Studies. He recently finished his Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning at the Luskin School of Public Affairs with a Certificate in Public Health Food Studies (2021). As a first-generation scholar, his focus and interest include working with the Southeast Asian community (Cambodian, Vietnamese, Laos, Hmong, Khmu, Mien, etc.) to address various social issues related to gentrification, deportation, and education attainment.
Through Daniel’s coursework and internships, he pushes himself and others to further understand how urban design can be reclaimed by Black, Indigenous, and POC community members through storytelling, cultural arts, and a reframing of traditional planning. This type of work has led Daniel towards finding his own identity to become an empowered community activist working towards collective care for his family, community, and self-trauma.
